Who Did It? – Outrageous Tickle
Oh really, if it’s the obvious, then we all know who did it! And it all started with a tickle.
Employee theft is a huge problem, not only in this economy, but at any time, an employee has a small to large tickle to steal. From posted notes to pieces of furniture, if you are a business owner, there is a guarantee that some of your items in which your employees use on a daily basis will be missing soon.
Anything could trigger this tickle. An argument at home, a coworker dispute, or an upper management misunderstanding. Regardless of the reason, you should be ready at all times.
Be cautious of 1) Little Miss Suck Up: She’s the one who will say “Yes, anything for you, you’re the boss”. She’s right there agreeing with everything you say, and praising you for every mistake you’ve made. But she’s always there to make you feel good about bad decisions. 2) Mr. I Want This: He’s the one who will say “I try so hard, I appreciate you.” This one already knows what his track record has been with past employers, but for some strange reason, you gave him a chance regardless of the signs. and 3) Mrs. Stealth mode: You really won’t hear much from her, but she comes in early and leaves late. She performs just enough to get her job done, and is a wiz at acting busy.
The truth is, they have already stolen from you, you just haven’t seen the effects of it yet. You’re supply room is always running low. Furniture is always being replaced. And the timekeeping system keeps shutting down. Oh, and it’s quite troublesome retaining new staff members.
Here are some steps you should take to stop the bleeding:
- Invite an external party into your business for about a week, allow them to observe and give you feedback on some issues.
- Remain open to suggestions.
- Develop a plan and map out the course of action.
- Implement the plan.
You will be well on your way to saving money and saving your company in the long run. The sooner you address these issues the better. Don’t allow these 3 characters to plague your organization.
Remember fickleness is contagious, that could cause a tickle to become outrageous.
